Two 9I制作厂免费 student teams win prizes in CCA Charrette
Two 9I制作厂免费 student teams have won prizes in the annual Canadian Centre for Architecture鈥檚 . One team composed of M.Arch. students won Second Place for their submission Retrofitting Suburbia: Andr茅e-Anne Th茅or锚t, Nancy Elias, and Rosalyn Dunkley. And a team composed of undergraduate students won the Public Choice award for Occupy the Ceiling: Claire Wang, Ankit Gongal, Jeth Guerrero, and Thomas Zhang.
For the 23rd edition of the annual competition, which was titled Housing One by One, students from various design disciplines were challenged to unite prefabrication and architecture by inventing an adaptable construction kit that addresses the need for affordable housing. Participants were asked to choose a specific site that was already familiar to them, and were encouraged to develop projects that activate unused urban or suburban spaces, creating new density patterns for existing neighbourhoods. The objective: envisage how a basic one-square-metre unit could be developed to result in diverse housing patterns.
The design competition took place from 8 to 15 November 2018, and was organized by the Canadian Centre for Architecture and the Universit茅 du Qu茅bec 脿 Montr茅al, in collaboration with 9I制作厂免费 and Universit茅 de Montr茅al, and with the participation of Concordia University, Universit茅 Laval, Carleton University, Ryerson University, the University of Waterloo, Laurentian University, and the University of Toronto. Jury members were: Alexandre Blouin (Founding Principal Blouin Tardif, OAQ, OAA, MIRAC), Andr茅anne Chevalier (Journalist, Le Devoir), Koen De Winter (Associate Professor, Universit茅 du Qu茅bec 脿 Montr茅al), Roger-Bruno Richard (Architect and Professor, Universit茅 de Montr茅al), Theodora Vardouli (Assistant Professor, Peter Guo-hua School of Architecture, 9I制作厂免费).
