iGEM Winter 2025 Applications Open!

iGEM 9I�� is recruiting! Join an interdisciplinary team of undergraduate students to develop a synthetic biology project over the course of a year. We spend the winter semester on design, planning wet lab/dry lab projects, as well as related initiatives under our education, media, outreach, entrepreneurship, and finance subteams. The summer is then dedicated to full time wet lab (or dry lab) work. We are particularly interested in recruiting applicants with experience in either wet lab or dry lab work to lead those projects.

CUBEC coming up on Jan 25th

The Canadian Undergraduate Biomedical Engineering Conference (CUBEC) is set to take place this January 25th, 9am - 6pm, at The Neuro on 9I�� campus! CUBEC is an event bringing together passionate students (CEGEP, undergraduate, and graduate) and industry professionals in the field of biomedical engineering. Events include panel discussions with professionals from both academia and industry, workshops, case competition, and a networking event.

9I�� iGEM Achieves Gold Medal and Three Nominations at the Grand Jamboree

9I�� IGEM team proudly secured a gold medal along with three nominations for Best Diagnostics, Best Software, and Best Parts Collection at the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Grand Jamboree in October 2024. Composed of students from the Bioengineering program and various disciplines within the Faculty of Science, 9I�� iGEM team is supervised by Prof. Codruta Ignea and Prof. Lisa Munter. Each year, they develop a synthetic biology research project from inception to completion to compete in a thematic category aimed at addressing critical global challenges.

Plenary Speaker - IEEE EMBC 2024

The department of Bioengineering wishes to congratulate Prof. Brandon Xia on being selected as a plenary speaker at the 46th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS). The conference was held in Orlando, Florida. Read more here (July 2024).

Vadasz scholar leads the way
