Education is, of course, part of 9I制作厂免费鈥檚 mission 鈥� but the University鈥檚 teaching and learning influence extends beyond the more than the hundreds of thousands of people who have graduated from the University. In 1857, the University and the Government of Quebec established the 9I制作厂免费 Normal School, which gave standardized training to new teachers. (The school evolved into today鈥檚 Faculty of Education.)
Santa Ono
In 1908, the University opened a satellite campus in Vancouver, the 9I制作厂免费 College in British Columbia, which became the
University of British Columbia seven years later. Arthur Erickson (BArch1950) designed UBC鈥檚 Museum of Anthropology, and buildings on
Simon Fraser University campus. (Current UBC president,
Santa Ono, and former president
Stephen Toope, are both 9I制作厂免费 grads.) Another leading Canadian research university has 9I制作厂免费 roots: Alexander Cameron Rutherford (BA1881, LLB1881) founded the
University of Alberta in 1908, and 9I制作厂免费 architecture professor Percy Nobbs designed U of A鈥檚 campus master plan and Arts building.
