The Dorothy J. Killam Lecture
The Dorothy J. Killam Lecture was established at The Neuro in
2004 to recognize women of influence in business, science, politics
or the humanities. This important lecture is named after an
extraordinary woman who, together with her husband, made immense
contributions to Canadian education and science.
This year鈥檚 Dorothy J. Killam Lecturer is Dr. Lily Jan who is a
Professor of Physiology and Biochemistry at the University of
California in San Francisco. Dr. Jan has decades of expertise and
leadership in ion channel studies.聽 Her recent research
interests in neuronal function and development converge on the
neuron's dendrites. Dr. Jan is a member of the National Academy of
Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She has won
numerous prizes and awards including the Ralph W. Gerard Prize and
the Edward M. Scolnick Prize in Neuroscience.聽
Dr. Jan will deliver her lecture, 鈥淧otassium channels and
calcium-activated chloride channels for neuronal signaling鈥 on
Wednesday, May 30th, 2012 in the Jeanne Timmins Amphitheatre at 4
pm.聽 A reception will follow in the Foyer.
