Skyrocketing utility bills, rising food prices, $100 fill-ups at the gas station – they’re all symptoms of our dependence on fossil fuels. Facing the harsh reality of higher energy costs, North Americans are searching for viable alternatives to oil, gas and coal. A 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ expert on wind power will examine the challenges and opportunities of modernizing our current power systems. He’ll explain how intelligent electric power grids and innovative management techniques could light the way to cleaner, cheaper energy.
Geza Joos, MEng’74, PhD’87, is a Professor and Canada Research Chair in 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He teaches courses and carries out research on electrical power systems and power electronics. His recent work explores the integration of renewable energy sources into current electrical systems, with special emphasis on the use of wind power. He is the author of numerous papers that have appeared in technical journals around the world, and is a member of the Canadian Academy of Engineering.
