Spying on the brain – consequences of living with chronic
pain.
Abstract: In this talk, I will present evidence
that functional, structural, and
biochemical alterations occur in the brains of patients with
chronic
pain. Recent animal data suggest that these brain changes might at
least
partly be the consequence, rather than the cause, of pain. I will
talk
about potential functional implications of the brain changes
observed as
well as speculate on their reversibility.
