Writing Effective Reference Letters for Student Fellowships
The goal of this workshop is to inform about and raise awareness of best practices in writing reference letters.
Description:
Professors are often asked by students to write reference letters
for funding opportunities. Reference letters are critical to a
fellowship or scholarship application, yet they are probably the
most overlooked part of the application process. Often many of the
applicants being considered for a competitive scholarship program
are first class, and reference letters are influential in
distinguishing an individual from a pack of outstanding applicants
by highlighting unique strengths. This interactive session is
designed to help you answer questions such as:
路听听听听听 What are the key elements of a 鈥済ood鈥 reference letter and what pitfalls should be avoided?
路听听听听听 Are you obliged to write a reference letter if asked by a student?
路听听听听听 How much lead time should you expect in order to write a reference letter?
路听听听听听 What information should be provided by the student?
