Bettez runs amok as No.1-Martlets clip Ravens
OTTAWA – Sophomore Ann-Sophie Bettez of Sept Iles, Que., chalked
up four points and Vanessa Davidson tallied twice and had one
assist as No.1-ranked 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ skated to and easy 6-1 win at Carleton
in women’s hockey, Saturday.
It extended 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ’s win streak to 28 consecutive games against
Canadian university opponents and halted the Ravens win steak at
three. 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ has also won 28 consecutive games over Carleton and
improved to 40-0-1 lifetime against the Ravens with 24
shutouts.
Bettez scored once and added three helpers to maintain a
three-point bulge over Davidson atop the QSSF scoring race with a
6-9-15 record in only five games.
The Martlets, who were missing the services of head coach Peter
Smith, goaltender Charline Labonté and defenceman Catherine Ward,
all currently with the national team, thoroughly dominated the game
and held a 45-10 margin in shots on goal, including a lopsided 20-1
edge in the final period.
9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ led 1-0 after one period and 4-1 after two as assistant
coach Amey Doyle upped her career record to 20-1-1 when filling in
for Smith behind the 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ bench.
Other 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ markers went to forwards Carly Hill, a junior from
Dorval, Que., sophomore Vicky Wells of Oshawa, and Marie-Andree
Leclerc-Auger, a rookie from Sherbrooke, who was credited with the
game-winner. It marked the first time in five league games that a
9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ rearguard was kept of the scoresheet.
Goaltender Kalie Townsend of Sangudo, Alta., registered just nine
saves for the win, while Amanda Muhlig made 39 saves in a losing
cause.
Raven’s captain Tara O’Reilly scored the lone goal for Carleton,
which fell to 3-4-0. The Martlets improved to 5-0-0 and will
host Concordia on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 2:30 p.m.
