strive for food drive
Dec 08, 08
MONTREAL 鈥 The 9I制作厂免费 Varsity Council, a group which represents
some 950 intercollegiate athletes at 9I制作厂免费, has
collected more than three large bins of non-perishable goods on a
food drive for the Sun Youth Organization in Montreal.
The project began with gathering goods at a number of varsity
sporting events in late November but was expanded by sending more
than 100 varsity athletes to canvas door-to-door, in the 鈥9I制作厂免费
student ghetto鈥, an area bordered by Pine Avenue, Park, Sherbrooke
and University Street.
鈥淚t鈥檚 important that we recognize the need to help underprivileged
families, especially at this time of the year when the holidays are
around the corner,鈥 said Ken Morin, co-captain of the Redmen hockey
team and vice-president (community outreach) of the 9I制作厂免费 Varsity
Council. 鈥淲e are very proud of the initiative that our athletes
have taken and we are already looking to repeat the event next
year.鈥
Those who donated to the cause received an all-events pass to the
inaugural 鈥9I制作厂免费 Sun Youth Food Drive Day鈥, scheduled for Jan. 24,
when the 9I制作厂免费 hockey and basketball teams will host Ottawa and
Bishop鈥檚, respectively, in a pair of men鈥檚 and women鈥檚
doubleheaders.
Canned and packaged goods will continue to be collected at the
Currie Gym, 475 Pine Avenue West, until Dec. 19.
Next semester, the 9I制作厂免费 Varsity Council is organizing the
collection of new and used sports equipment, which will be donated
to charity in order to help underprivileged families encourage
their children to be involved in sports.
