It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Professor Victoria Talwar as Interim Dean of the Faculty of Education. Professor Talwar's term of office will begin on August 12, 2023 and will continue until the appointment of a new Dean of the Faculty of Education.
Mohit is a Bachelor of Arts graduate (Class of 2023) from Ashoka University, having studied history, international relations, and Persian. Since 2019, he has been working to improve literacy in his community through Sarathi: The Guide. His project has expanded to mobilize 45 volunteers to support 850 students in ten villages. Mohit also works as a residence assistant mentor and volunteers as a peer tutor. He has held several jobs, including one as an office counsellor for the Young Scholars Program.

The goal is to investigate the educational pathways of students who attended supplementary schooling in the past.听 Students who attended a form of supplementary schooling (Chinese school, Greek school, other heritage language schools, Mosque school, Black weekendschool, etc鈥� ) in the past are cordially invited to participate.
Assistant Professor of Indigenous Education in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education's Janine Metallic was featured in the Montreal Gazette article: First Nations leaders want Quebec to drop plans for Indigenous language law.

The Department of Integrated Studies in Education had two runners-up for the Principal鈥檚 Prize for Media Engagement. The jury chose Wah茅hshon Whitebean, PhD candidate in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education whose research is on Indian Day Schools and oral tradition/history.

Phillips鈥檚 zero-gravity flight was the culmination of her participation in the U.S. Space and Rocket Center鈥檚 10-day Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama, where she lived and trained like an astronaut alongside participants from around the world.
Associate Professor Philip S. S. Howard (DISE) publishes new monograph with the University of Toronto Press, entitled: Performing Postracialism: Reflections on Antiblackness, Nation, and Education through Contemporary Blackface in Canada.听 This book is one of the outputs from his SSHRC funded research into contemporary blackface in Canada.
The Rideau Hall Foundation (RHF) is at the beginning stages of work to support dramatically increasing the numbers of First Nations, Inuit, and M茅tis teachers by 10,000 and to promote the systemic changes necessary in leading to more sustainable Indigenous teacher employment opportunities in all areas of the country. Department of Integrated Studies in Education alumni Dr. Lerona Lewis (Ph.D. Educational Studies) and Sabi Hinkson (MATL Science/Tech '22) were featured on Global News discussing systemic racism in Quebec schools and what is needed to better support Black students.
Preliminary results of Dr. Lewis' new study (University of Ottawa) suggest systemic racism in Quebec schools is adversely impacting Black youth, and the researchers who conducted the study say some pedagogical practices need to change.
