Rihab Chaieb has been awarded a First Prize at the 2016 Gerda Lissner International Vocal Competition in New York. 聽聽She聽graduated with聽BMus in Voice from the 聽Schulich School of Music before becoming a member of the Canadian Opera Company's聽聽Ensemble program. Currently finishing her first year at the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann program, Chaieb聽studied voice at Schulich with Professors Winston Purdy and Sanford Sylvan.
Viva Voce, one of Montreal's best professional choral ensembles gave its last concert on Tuesday night at Bourgie Hall.聽Viva Voce closed聽its 17th season聽with music by Renaissance rock star and Monteverdi role model, Cipriano De Rore.聽Founder and conductor Peter Schubert says he's always looking for enticing ways to program a concert, and anniversaries are sometimes helpful.

The latest edition of Circuit musiques contemporaines,聽Volume 26, no. 1, is devoted to聽the Societ茅 de musique contemporaine de Qu茅bec's (SMCQ)聽Homage Series composer of the year, Professor John Rea. 聽Rea聽has been celebrated 聽by the SMCQ throughout the 2015-2016 musical season. The magazine includes聽articles and contributions by Jimmie LeBlanc, Maxime McKinley, Anne Marie Messier and Michel Robert, Julien Bilodeau and John Rea himself. The issue is illustrated by artist Nicholas Voeikoff-Erens.

Professor Jacqueline Leclair,聽Associate Dean of聽Academic and Student Affairs聽group, Ensemble Signal, performed a remarkable, hour-long work by Hans Abrahamsen in New York City March 24th, and received this New York Times review.聽Leclair teaches oboe, coaches chamber music and is also Woodwind Area Chair here at the Schulich School of Music.聽

Benjamin Deschamps, a Schulich School of Music Master's student has been awarded the 'Bourse de Cr茅ation Jazz' by the Conseil des Arts de Montr茅al (CAM). 聽The $5,000 award will be used to help fund聽the production of his second jazz recording. 聽The award was announced on March 17, at the opening of the Jazz en rafale concert series. 聽Deschamps is curently finishing his Master's degree as a student of Professor Joe Sullivan and has also studied with Professors Kevin Dean and Jean-Nicolas Trottier.

On March 21st, 2016 the聽QS World University Rankings by Subject 2016 were announced and 9I制作厂免费's Schulich School of Music was named the top Canadian performing arts university in the country.聽QS聽rankings highlight the world鈥檚 top universities in 42 subjects, based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact. 聽The Schulich School of Music was ranked 26th overall. 聽Other participating Canadian institutions include University of British Columbia, University of Montreal, and University of Toronto.

Professor Marcelo M. Anna Peletsis, a doctoral聽piano聽student of Professor Marina Mdivani, has won the 9I制作厂免费 Concerto Competition and will perform next season with the McGIll Symphony Orchestra. A graduate of the聽Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatoire where she with professors Sergey Dorensky, Pavel Nersessian and Nikolai Luganski, she also聽won the 1st prize of the International Piano Competition "Nikolai Rubinstein" in Paris in 2004. She has participated in the 鈥淛ose Iturbi鈥 masterclasses in Valencia, Spain and in a聽聽master class聽of French Music in Paris, France.

Brent Proseus, a student of Professor Richard Stoelzel, Brass Area Chair, has been named聽winner of the 2016 Schulich School of Music Woodwinds, Brass, and Percussion competition. 聽Brent鈥檚 first聽trumpet teacher was his father, Eric and he聽聽continued his聽studies with Gregg Good. Brent was principal trumpet in聽the Michigan Junior High All-State Band and he was principal trumpet in the Michigan All-state Orchestra as well as the lead trumpet in the Michigan All-State Jazz Band.

On Feb. 7,聽Chelsea Rus聽was named the winner of the inaugural Wirth Vocal Prize. According to the Schulich School of Music鈥檚 website, the $25,000 prize is given to 鈥渁n exceptional voice student鈥 in recognition of outstanding accomplishment as a singer and significant promise for an international career.鈥 Pretty heady stuff for any young singer 鈥 but especially so for Rus, who had never even heard an opera until her first year of college in 2009 back home in Abbotsford, B.C.
