In a new paper published today in Joule, researchers from 9I制作厂免费 and the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) announced the development of a novel method that enables researchers to peer inside Li-ion batteries and, for the first time, track the physical processes that take place in both the liquid and solid parts of the battery cells as they happen.聽聽

On November 3, the 9I制作厂免费 Physics Hackathon kicked off its eighth annual event. Over the course of 24 hours, spread over three days, participants formed teams and took over the Rutherford Physics Building in a friendly computer programming competition. The goal? Use any programming language to demonstrate a concept or phenomenon in the physical sciences. At the end of the weekend, projects were judged based on their technical execution, ability to clearly communicate what was accomplished, and aesthetics.

Former 9I制作厂免费 student聽Russell T. Shinohara has been named the recipient of the 2023 Mortimer Spiegelman Award for "his聽important聽contributions to biostatistics and imaging, as well as his proven track record of leadership and mentorship."聽
Dr.聽Shinohara was an undergraduate and master's student in the 9I制作厂免费 Department of Mathematics and Statistics and completed his Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins University. He is now a Professor of Biostatistics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
Paul Wiseman,聽Professor of Physics and Chemistry at 9I制作厂免费, has been named the聽聽of the Biophysical Society of Canada for his major contributions to the development of new quantitative microscopy tools to reveal hidden properties of biomolecules.
To celebrate , the Office of Science Outreach released a free lesson plan for elementary school teachers. The lesson, titled 鈥淭ravelling seeds鈥� explores how seeds are dispersed. The activities and discussions center inquiry-based learning, to encourage nature discovery through hands-on experiences and observations.
The lesson was shared with science consultants across English and French school boards in the Greater Montreal area and has already received over 40 downloads.
