Hailing from the small town of Hazelton, B.C., and later moving to Prince George, B.C., Brandon Greenall has always embraced new opportunities. With a background in finance and marketing, his career has spanned project management roles in healthcare and construction. Outside of work and studies, Greenall has explored entrepreneurship and amateur photography—interests that reflect his curiosity and drive for growth.
Now, as a at 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ’s Desautels Faculty of Management, he is making the most of an MBA enriched by international perspectives and hands-on learning.
Why did you choose to enroll in the 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ MBA?
I chose to enroll in the 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ MBA because during my MBA, I really wanted to build on the learnings I had during my BCom program, but under a more international and eastern Canadian business lens. Apart from this, 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ Desautels attracts such a talented international cohort each year and the opportunity to learn from such a diverse and talented group of people throughout my degree was something that, a little over a year ago, I could only have dreamt of.
How has being a McCall MacBain Scholar shaped your experience at 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ?
The McCall MacBain scholarship, which is what made my journey to 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ possible, goes far beyond financial aid. The scholarship is accompanied by bi-weekly leadership sessions, where I get to work with scholars from various backgrounds on navigating complex topics including social justice, workplace conflict, ethical leadership, and equity-based decision making. I’ve also been paired with a professional coach, Leo, who has been phenomenal in helping guide me through both my academic and non-academic goals. The learnings from our leadership sessions and from my professional coach allow me to really grow beyond the classroom.
What aspects of the MBA program have had the biggest impact on you?
I think the aspect of the MBA program that has had the biggest impact on me so far is spending time with my amazing cohort, and especially my case competition partners. I’ve been lucky to work with an incredible group of dedicated case competition partners, collaborating to build our consulting and strategy skills through numerous case competitions. The growth of the entire team has been amazing to witness. We’ve gone from participants to finalists at several competitions over the past few months, and I look forward to our continued growth throughout the coming year.
Can you share a defining moment or key takeaway from your MBA experience?
While I am a little under halfway through the MBA program, I think the most defining moment so far (and I think a lot of my fellow cohort would agree with) was experiencing the MBA core semester together last year. Getting to experience 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ for the first time, navigating all the amazing opportunities 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ Desautels has to offer, and managing our schedules through the 10-class semester truly bonded us all in a way that I really hadn’t experienced before. It’s a time I know that I will look back on fondly well beyond graduation.
How has the 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ MBA prepared you for the next stage of your career?
The culmination of workshops, both student-led and by the 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ Desautels’ Career Management team, have been very helpful in terms of skill-building and the development of new connections outside of the classroom. The group work I’ve encountered within the program and extracurriculars through case competitions have also really helped me build both my leadership and collaboration skills. Lastly, I think the skills I am developing as part of my MBA internship with Bombardier are really helping to shape my global business perspective and corporate strategy skills.
What advice would you give future McCall MacBain Scholars or incoming MBA students?
My one piece of advice, to both McCall MacBain Scholars and incoming 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ MBA students, is to say yes to as many new opportunities as you can—even to the ones outside of your stretch zone! Without a doubt, following that piece of advice has been the most essential to my journey thus far, and has continued to unlock new opportunities, interests, and growth.
As Greenall continues his MBA journey, he remains committed to making the most of their time at 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ Desautels, leveraging his experiences to build a promising future in the global business landscape.
