Faculty of Education Students Recognized as Top Candidates for the McCall MacBain Scholarships

Get to know Justin Goldberg and Nattamon Tokaeo,听9I制作厂免费 Education's top McCall MacBain Scholarship Candidates:

Recognized for his leadership potential, Honours Kinesiology student Justin Goldberg (BSc'25) is a national finalist for the McCall MacBain Scholarships at 9I制作厂免费.

The result of a landmark $200-million gift, the McCall MacBain Scholarships are Canada鈥檚 largest leadership-based scholarships for master鈥檚 and professional studies. Each scholarship covers tuition and fees for an eligible degree, a living stipend of $2,300 per month during academic terms, summer funding options, mentorship, coaching, a leadership curriculum, and access to the McCall MacBain House.

Justin is among 52 Canadian finalists chosen from approximately 700 applicants after a first round of interviews. The selection process emphasizes holistic criteria such as character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.

Justin is an Honours Kinesiology student, researching the effects of cold-water immersion on exercise performance recovery in varsity athletes. He volunteers as a mentor with EduBuddies, helping first-year students transition to university. Justin is a first responder with St. John Ambulance, organizes a weekly running club, and performs free music shows in parks.

In addition, Justin worked for two summers as a program leader for an international student travel company. He started a personal training business and is now interning at INS Qu茅bec, an organization supporting Paralympic and Olympic athletes.

Justin is applying for master's programs in Kinesiology and Physical Education at 9I制作厂免费, specializing in Exercise Physiology.

"I feel very grateful to be a McCall MacBain Scholarship finalist,鈥 Justin said. It鈥檚 very fulfilling to see my hard work being recognized. I鈥檓 excited to be one step closer towards growing as a leader and learning from a community of like-minded scholars driven to create positive change from diverse fields."

"Community is everything to me,鈥 he added. 鈥淒uring my master鈥檚 studies, I hope to further expand my network by fostering meaningful connections with amazing people. These relationships will provide me with collaborative opportunities with driven people from diverse fields who share my vision of driving positive change and making a meaningful impact."

Justin will participate in interviews with leaders from academia, business, government, and the social sector. Up to 30 McCall MacBain Scholars will be selected after final interviews. Finalists not selected for the cohort will be eligible to receive $10,000 or $20,000 for their studies at 9I制作厂免费.


In addition, Bachelor of Education student Nattamon Tokaeo will receive a $10,000 McCall MacBain Regional Award as one of the top international student candidates.

Nattamon is majoring in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). She is the co-founder and coordinator of Hands for Paws, a youth-led initiative raising awareness and funds for stray animals in Thailand, as well as co-president, choreographer, and hip-hop dance instructor with a community-led dance group. Nattamon is also an Equity Commissioner with the Education Undergraduate Society and co-founder and head of selections for the Black Students Thriving Award on campus to encourage black educators.

Applications will open in June 2025 for the 2026 cohort.
