Building a Talent Pipeline for Women: A conversation with Dr. Kristin Lauter
Abstract:
This open discussion, targeted at math & stats department聽faculty members across Montreal, is meant to discuss聽initiatives towards career success for women-identified聽students and faculty. It will highlight the importance of聽supporting women at all stages in their career, and steps聽towards improvement of their working conditions. In聽particular, this talk focusses on how we keep women on track聽to careers in math without losing them somewhere along the聽way; this phenomena of women disappearing as they聽approach higher levels of a discipline is commonly referred to聽as the 鈥渓eaky pipeline鈥. Ultimately, initiatives towards gender聽diversity in mathematics require a 鈥渢alent pipeline鈥欌, a way to聽ensure conditions that will ultimately lead to the success of聽women-identified individuals in mathematics.
