Abstract:
Kepler's three laws of planetary motion were one of the motivations for Newton's Law of Gravitation and the development听of Calculus. But, reversing the chronology, could Johannes, a听motivated first year student, prove Kepler's laws by the end of听his first Calculus course? In this pizza talk we will show听that the answer is听yes and, if time permits, discuss some of the听symmetries that arise from the problem.
