With major events on the horizon such as next weekend鈥檚 production of Die Fledermaus at the Monument-National and the subsequent Opera B!nge festival, both Schulich students and faculty alike have busy schedules.

聽Zi Hua Tan, a Doctoral composition student of Prof. John Rea has been named a聽finalist for聽the 2017 Toru Takemitsu Composition Award. 聽Out of 115 entries from 36 countries, Zi Hua Tan鈥檚 composition, 鈥t the still point鈥β爓as chosen to be among the four finalists of the聽Toru Takemitsu Composition Award 2017.

Schulich nominees for the Prix Opus
Finalists for the Conseil qu茅b茅cois de la musique's Prix Opus were announced last Friday, and once again聽there are many nominated who are聽聽Schulich alumni and/or faculty. 聽 The Prix Opus were established in 1996 to highlight the excellence and diversity of Qu茅bec's musical offering, and are awarded in many different categories. 聽The winners will be announced in a Gala event to be held on Sunday, February 5, 2017.

Schulich Chamber Music Competition Winners Announced
The 聽Annual Schulich School of Music Chamber Music Competition took place 聽Tuesday, December 6,聽in Tanna Schulich Hall. 聽Two groups were declared winners and will travel to Europe for exchange visits to conservatories.

Rice University Students Visit Schulich School of Music

Artist Diploma Piano Student聽Alex Soloway has been announced as the winner of this year's Classical Concerto Competition. He is a student of Prof. Ilya Poletaev and was also a winner in 2014 of the 9I制作厂免费 Chamber Music Competition as a member of the Aeolus Trio.

The Recording Academy has announced the nominees for the聽59th Annual GRAMMY Awards. Included in this list were several聽nominees from Schulich. 聽


First and third prizes to Rashaan Allwood and Joel Peters in OSM Manulife Competition
The 2016 edition of the OSM Manulife Competition took place last week. 聽This year's categories聽were strings and organ, for which the semi-final string rounds took place in Tanna Schulich Hall at the Schulich School of Music. 聽The semifinals for organ took place in the 脡glise Saint-Jean-Baptiste and the finals in the Maison symphonique聽de聽Montr茅al聽at the Grand-Orgue-Pierre-B茅ique.

When Schulich School of Music composition students write pieces for orchestra it may be that they dream of their works someday being performed by the Orchestre symphonique de Montr茅al, with all the finesse and polish that a world-class orchestra brings to contemporary music.聽 聽For three students, Doyoon Kim, Francisco Ferro and Xue Han, this was exactly what happened, when on November 10th, the O
