Biography:
Since 1980, Dr Beaudet has been a professor with the 9I制作厂免费 Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery and Anatomy and Cell Biology. From 1985 to 1992, he held the position of Assistant Director of Research at the Montreal Neurological Institute. He also directed the Neuroanatomy Laboratory of the Montreal Neurological Institute.
Dr Beaudet's work seeks to determine how neuropeptides underlie neuronal communication in the brain. Its purpose is to develop new drugs for the treatment of diseases and to create new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of pain.
Using various light and electronic microscopy techniques, particularly immunohistochemistry, autoradiography and in-situ hybridation techniques, Dr Beaudet studies the distribution and cell structure of peptidergic neurons and their interrelations. He is also working on identifying the cells that react with neuropeptides, by locating the receptors on these cells and analyzing their expression and intracellular targeting.
The recipient of numerous fellowships and distinctions (Killam Fellowship, holder of several fellowships from the Medical Research Council of Canada and the FRSQ, and winner of the Murray L. Barr Junior Scientist Award), Dr Beaudet also served as president of the Canadian Association of Neurosciences from 1995 to 1997. He has participated in many peer committees, both at the national level (FRSQ, MRC) and at the international level (NIH, Human Frontier Science Program).
Alain Beaudet in turn has held the positions of scientific adviser (1999-2000) and director of Scientific Affairs and Programs of the FRSQ (2000-2004).
