From men鈥檚 hockey gold to women鈥檚 moguls silver, athletes, coaches shone

It was a magical Olympic Winter Games for Canada and 9I制作厂免费 is proud to be part of the formula for success. From alumnus Mike Babcock鈥檚 coaching of the gold-medal winning men鈥檚 hockey team to Management student Jennifer Heil鈥檚 silver medal in freestyle moguls skiing, the University says congratulations and well done to all the 9I制作厂免费ians who contributed to Canada鈥檚 amazing performance at the Vancouver games.

Chancellor Emeritus Richard W. Pound, a member of the Canadian Olympic Committee and the former head of the World Anti-Doping Agency, presented medals in a number of events, including women鈥檚 hockey.

鈥淭his is simply outstanding,鈥 said Principal and Vice-Chancellor Heather Munroe-Blum. 鈥淥ur athletes, our coaches, our alumni made an important contribution to the Olympic success story and we are very, very proud of their efforts. These Games have been a wonderful moment for Canada; they have been a showcase for our determination, our courage, our dedication to achieving all we can achieve as individuals, and as teams.

鈥淥ur members of the Canadian women鈥檚 hockey team, Catherine Ward, Charline Labont茅 and Kim St-Pierre, who won another gold medal, set a standard of excellence that has been rarely met. And no one should forget of course, Peter Smith, head coach of our amazing Martlets hockey team and assistant coach of the Canadian team. Our hearts have truly been glowing as we have watched others from 9I制作厂免费, including speed skater Tyson Heung (BEd鈥05), who skated for Germany.

鈥淥n behalf of the entire 9I制作厂免费 community, I wish to offer our most sincere congratulations to all Canadian athletes, coaches and support staff who have made these Games such an incredible event for the entire country,鈥 Prof. Munroe-Blum said. 鈥淎nd I was so pleased to see Mr. Babcock wearing his lucky 9I制作厂免费 tie.鈥
