Little Fibbers to Big Whoppers: The development of children鈥檚 lie-telling and different profiles of lying

Her research is in the area of developmental psychology with an emphasis on social-cognitive development. She is a recognized leading expert on children鈥檚 honesty and has published numerous articles on children鈥檚 truth- and lie-telling behaviors as well as child witness credibility. She is author of the book The Truth about Lying: Teaching Honesty to Children at Every Age and Stage published by American Psychological Association. She works with practitioners (educators, clinicians, social workers, legal professionals) on research, training and knowledge mobilization. Among other distinctions and awards, she is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Division 7), a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science, and a Fellow the Royal Society of Canada.


Learning Objectives:
1. Learn how children鈥檚 lie-telling emerges in the preschool years and how lie-telling abilities increase
with age.
2. Identify likely cognitive, social and motivational factors that affect adaptive and maladaptive lying
behaviour
3. Learn about different potential profiles of normative and problematic dishonesty
