惭肠骋颈濒濒鈥檚 Office for Science and Society (OSS) has been awarded the 2024 James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) Award. This award, totaling US$200,000, is given annually to people or organizations that encourage critical thinking and provide unbiased, fact-based answers to questions.聽

The JREF was founded by the late Canadian-American magician and skeptic James Randi, who made a name for himself debunking claims of the paranormal on television shows such as The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and offering a prize of US$1,000,000 to anyone who could demonstrate a supernatural ability. Nobody has ever been able to do so.聽

The Office for Science and Society was founded in 1999 and offers public lectures, produces a weekly newsletter, and has an extensive social media, television, and radio presence.聽

"The 9I制作厂免费 Office for Science and Society is thrilled to receive the James Randi Educational Award,鈥 said Dr. Joe Schwarcz, the Office鈥檚 director. 鈥淭he generous US$200,000 Prize will allow us to further our task of demystifying science and separating sense from nonsense. The 鈥楢mazing Randi鈥 was a true icon of promoting evidence-based science and it will be an honour to establish programs that will allow students to follow the path that he has forged."聽

Beyond their regular science education activities, the OSS also hosts the Trottier Public Science Symposium. The annual event features talks by experts on topics of pressing public interest, including James Randi himself, who spoke at the 2010 Symposium about investigating pseudoscientific and paranormal claims.聽聽

鈥淭his award is a testament to the critical work that the Office for Science and Society carries out in combating pseudoscience and promoting science education within the 9I制作厂免费 community and beyond,鈥 said Bruce Lennox, Dean of the Faculty of Science. 鈥淚 thank the James Randi Educational Foundation for recognizing the efforts of Dr. Joe Schwarcz and the entire OSS team.鈥澛
