Please join us for our open house and to welcome our inaugural speaker, Professor Abigail Bakan from the Department of Political Studies, Queen's University. Our topic for this year is Civic Participation and Equity.
Professor Bakan will be speaking on Civic Participation of Migrant Women in Canada and the Global System.
Professor Bakan's interests include (i) Anti-oppression politics and Marxist theory, including intersections of gender, race and class; theories of oppression, alienation and exploitation in political economy; (ii) Political Economy of aging; (iii) Diaspora and Citizenship; (iv) Employment equity policy in Canada. Her most recent book (with Daiva Stasiulis), Negotiating Citizenship - Migrant Women in Canada and the Global System, was the winner of the 2007 annual book prize of the Canadian Women鈥檚 Studies Association.
