MIPCC 2024: RQSPAL Brings the Latest Research

The (RQSPAL) is an organization comprising over 300 academic and college researchers, students, healthcare and social services professionals, research personnel, decision-makers, and citizens from almost all regions of Quebec. Its goal is to enhance research capacity in palliative and end-of-life care (PEOL). RQSPAL is mandated to develop PEOL research by advancing knowledge and practices, as well as mobilizing knowledge.

The 76 regular members (researchers) of RQSPAL are distributed across 11 universities and one college throughout Quebec and affiliated with 16 distinct research centers. The regular members represent more than 17 different research domains and disciplines. Specifically, 46% of them conduct research in humanities and social sciences (e.g., social work, psychology, theology, anthropology, philosophy); 42% in health sciences (e.g., medicine, nursing, community and public health); and 12% in arts (music therapy, art therapy), economics, and law. Additionally, many regular members have professional experience in the healthcare and social services system, facilitating the alignment of population needs with research and the integration of research results at the clinical level. Overall, the representation of members ensures diversity in various types of research, following a holistic approach, and also promotes interdisciplinary and intersectoral collaboration. The achievements, activities, research results, and impacts, as well as the expertise of RQSPAL members, are valued through various scientific and knowledge mobilization activities, offered in different formats (virtual, in-person), targeting diverse audiences at the provincial, national, and international levels. On average, RQSPAL organizes about 20 scientific activities per year and maintains a significant presence on social media. Our collaboration with Palliative Care 9I制作厂免费 dates back to 2018 shortly after the creation of RQSPAL. On that occasion, we held our Annual Scientific Day within the 9I制作厂免费 International Palliative Care Congress, where all scientific presentations were entirely in French, a first for the Congress! Since then, RQSPAL has ensured a Francophone presence at the Congress through this partnership, making the latest discoveries in palliative and end-of-life care accessible and inclusive in both official Canadian languages.

For the 2024 edition, the RQSPAL Scientific Day, scheduled for October 18, will offer a dynamic and balanced format of high-quality presentations lasting 30 minutes for regular researchers and 10 minutes for student members, focusing on their research projects conducted recently. The research themes of our members cover the inclusive spectrum of palliative and end-of-life care for people of all ages diagnosed with life-limiting conditions. It also addresses all individuals surrounding these people, with topics such as grief, spiritual care, caregiving, medical assistance in dying, the experiences of healthcare and social services professionals, pediatric palliative care, etc. Our members are interested in a multitude of methodologies, and fascinating research results will be presented.

Within RQSPAL, the richness of our student community is highlighted during our activities. The 9I制作厂免费 International Palliative Care Congress is no exception! Their short presentations will captivate you with their bold topics and the passion that drives our student members. All of these presentations will be conducted in French, but English speakers can benefit from simultaneous translation.
