Neonatology Hemodynamics
and Targeted Neonatal Echocardiography (NH-TNE)
and Targeted Neonatal Echocardiography (NH-TNE)
Neonatal Hemodynamics refers to the continuous and real-time assessment of major determinants of cardiovascular function in preterm and term neonates. Targeted Neonatal Echocardiography (TNE) refers to the use of ultrasound by trained neonatologists as a complementary test to provide a comprehensive assessment of cardiovascular function, obtain physiologic information relevant to the clinical situation, formulate a diagnostic impression to support clinical decision-making for a specific therapeutic recommendation, and evaluate the response to treatment. The purpose of the 9I制作厂免费 Area of Focused Competence (AFC) program in Neonatal Hemodynamics and Targeted Neonatal Echocardiography (NH-TNE) is to provide the trainee with additional knowledge, skills and experience in neonatal hemodynamics needed to begin a potential career as an independent practitioner using neonatal echocardiography and other tools for neonatal hemodynamics assessment. Indeed, the 9I制作厂免费 NH-TNE AFC training program aims to teach the skills of cardiac ultrasound, provide an in-depth understanding of cardiac physiology and to integrate both in the application of neonatal care. The training neonatologist will understand the scope of neonatal hemodynamics practice and its limitations. We are proud to be one of the few programs accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Our fellows participate in diverse rotations, including longitudinal hemodynamics, the echocardiography laboratory, cardiology intensive care consultations, and junior attending roles in neonatal hemodynamics. They gain exposure to a wide range of pathologies, such as prematurity, sepsis, pulmonary hypertension, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, complex pulmonary vascular disease, vein of Galen malformation, congenital heart defects, and the full spectrum of neonatal hemodynamic conditions encountered in a Level 4 quaternary NICU. During their ICU cardiology rotations, fellows are also exposed to post-operative cardiac patients and those requiring ECMO as part of their comprehensive longitudinal training. Fellows actively engage in both learning and teaching activities, participating in numerous academic opportunities such as teaching rounds, research projects, quality improvement initiatives, case discussions, and multidisciplinary meetings.
