Current research: 

Current work examines extracellular vesicle release from human islets and the immune responses to these vesicles. Our lab also is working on stem-cell generated islets for use in human transplantation. A third, and related, area of work involves manipulation of the Th17 axis in the context of transplantation.

Islets of Langerhans 鈥� type 1 diabetes 鈥� cell death 鈥� inflammation 鈥� ischemia-reperfusion injury 鈥� immunoregulation聽

Biography: 

Dr. Steven Paraskevas is Professor of Surgery at 9I制作厂免费 and a Transplant Surgeon at the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH). He also serves as the Director of Pancreas and Islet Transplantation and Director of Research for General Surgery at the 9I制作厂免费 Health Centre (MUHC). Dr. Paraskevas鈥� clinical and research interests focus on developing cell-based therapeutic strategies for type 1 diabetes and improving immunotherapy to enhance graft survival in transplant recipients.
