Current work examines extracellular vesicle release from human islets and the immune responses to these vesicles. Our lab also is working on stem-cell generated islets for use in human transplantation. A third, and related, area of work involves manipulation of the Th17 axis in the context of transplantation.

Dr. Steven Paraskevas is Professor of Surgery at 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ and a Transplant Surgeon at the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH). He also serves as the Director of Pancreas and Islet Transplantation and Director of Research for General Surgery at the 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ Health Centre (MUHC). Dr. Paraskevas’ clinical and research interests focus on developing cell-based therapeutic strategies for type 1 diabetes and improving immunotherapy to enhance graft survival in transplant recipients.
