TIE lab presents at SCAPPS 2022 in Montreal

Oct 13~15 2022, TIE lab participated in the SCAPPS (Canadian Society for Psychomotor Learning and Sport Psychology) 2022 Conference in Montreal, Quebec. TIE lab students, Olivia, Gabby, and Nour each presented their research and had great discussions with professors and students from different universities and labs. Dr. Shane Sweet is one of the main organizers, as well as Tayah and George (Zhiyang) volunteered at this conference.听

TIE lab presents at ISCOS 2022 conference in Vancouver

Sep 15~18 2022, TIE lab went to the听61st International Spinal Cord Society Annual Scientific Meeting in Vancouver, BC. TIE lab supervisor, Dr. Shane Sweet and lab member, Jacques Comeau led a discussion on peer support for individuals with spinal cord injury at the pre-conference. TIE lab students, Tayah and Nour delivered their poster presentations, as well as George and Olivia gave their oral presentations on their research projects.

Congrats to TIE lab graduate students Olivia and Nour for completing their thesis proposal

September 6th and 7th, 2022, TIE lab graduate students, Olivia Pastore and Nour Saadawi, each completed their thesis proposals with their committee.听

Olivia's Ph.D. thesis: Understanding and reducing compassion fatigue using the compassion fatigue resilience model and self-compassion in peer mentors of Canadian spinal cord injury community-based organizations.

Congrats to TIE lab student Tayah on her new publication

March 12, 2022,听TIE lab PhD student Tayah Liska published the research on the Journal of Spinal Cord Medicine. The title of the publication is "Examining long-term motivational and behavioural outcomes of two physical activity interventions".

Dr. Shane Sweet and Jacques Comeau co-presenting at KPE grad seminar

November 18th, 2021, Dr. Shane Sweet and Mr. Jacques Comeau collaboratively presented at the graduate seminar of the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education. They shared their experience in doing听community-based research on peer mentorship for people living听with spinal cord injuries.

Both of them听came听from the听study in which our听research team collaborated with community partners to interview听multiple individuals who have been involved in community-based spinal cord injury (SCI) peer mentorship programs.

Congratulations to Emilie Michalovic on passing her PhD dissertation defense

November 3rd,听2021,听TIE lab member Emilie Michalovic successfully completed听her PhD dissertation defense. Emilie joined听the TIE lab in 2015 and has been an excellent lab member over the past six years. She is Dr. Sweet's first student who completed her PhD degree. Emilie's research focuses on enhancing听the social participation and well-being of people living with COPD.

TIE Lab members did excellent presentations at the SCAPPS 2021 online conference

October 20-22, 2021, the Canadian Society for Psychomotor Learning and Sport Psychology 2021 Conference was held听online by the Nipissing University. TIE lab members, Jordan Herbison and听Emilie Michalovic听gave excellent oral presentations听on their research. Olivia Pastore and Tayah Liska successfully presented their posters. TIE lab alumni, Dr. Meredith Rocchi, also presented her research at the conference.

Congrats to TIE lab student Olivia Pastore on passing the PhD comprehensive exam

September 24th, 2021, TIE lab student Olivia听successfully defended her听Ph.D. comprehensive exam.听She did an excellent job and received lots of praise from her committee members听on both the written and oral components.

In the summer, Olivia spent three months writing the answers to the questions in the topics on physical activity trends, self-compassion conceptualization, and RCT听alternative methodologies.

TIE lab student Zhiyang (George) presented at the ASIA 2021 conference

July 8th, TIE lab PhD听student, Zhiyang (George) virtually presented the research project "Identifying important outcomes of SCI peer mentorship using a Delphi consensus approach" at the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA)听2021 conference.听ASIA is one of听the leading Americas organizations in the field of spinal cord injury care, education, and research.
