Clinical Tropical & Geographic Medicine | May 21-23, 2025
COURSE FORMAT
Hybrid. The clinical review portion of the course will be from May 21st to 23rd, 2025.聽The clinical review will be live to in-person participants approximately 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Montreal time) each day. Live content will be recorded. Live content will be recorded and available asynchronously to online participants until July 1, 2025.
The laboratory session on May 24th will be in-person only from approximately 8:00 AM-4:00 PM (Montreal time). The laboratory session will not be recorded.
DESCRIPTION
9I制作厂免费鈥檚 J. D. MacLean Centre for Tropical and Geographic Medicine has provided training to generations of doctors and nurses providing clinical care to travelers, immigrants, and populations in endemic areas around the
world for over 30 years. This year the course will be given in-person and available to online participants as recorded sessions. The focus is on care of pathologies imported among travellers and migrants, those affecting endemic settings abroad and in Canada, and those arising from contact with specific environments, animals, or vectors. The course also aims to link laboratory diagnostics and research to the clinical treatment of patients.

CONTENT
Tropical Medicine Clinical Review (Wednesday-Friday, June 21-23, 2025)
This course uses a series of interactive lectures to address the latest health issues and treatments for travelers and endemic populations affected by tropical and parasitic diseases. Faculty will present the state-of-the-art in clinical care, research, and diagnostics, as well as preventative medicine for travelers. Topics to be covered include clinical approach to parasitic liver, brain and lung lesions as well as updates in malaria, vaccines and antimicrobial resistance in the tropics. As usual we will present a series of fascinating interactive clinical vignettes.
You may register for one, or both, of these course components; however the laboratory section is limited to 40 participants.
Laboratory Course: Malaria and Parasitic Zoonoses (Saturday, May 24, 2025)
The laboratory session uses a mix of (i) lecture overviews of blood-borne and intestinal parasites and (ii) hands-on teaching of microscopy for medical laboratory technologists, microbiologists, clinicians, nurses, and other industry personnel.
OBJECTIVES
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the state-of-the-art in clinical care and diagnosis of imported and endemic tropical and parasitic diseases
- Be familiar with emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in Clinical Tropical Medicine
- Understand recent issues in immunization practice
- Increase expertise in the laboratory diagnosis of parasitic diseases (laboratory session)

Professionals involved in the care of tropical and parasitic diseases, either in Canada or in endemic settings, including:
- Family Physicians
- Infectious Diseases Specialists / Medical Microbiologists
- Nurses
- Medical laboratory technologists
