It is with sadness that the Faculty announces the death of Professor聽William Tetley, C.M., Q.C., LL.L., who passed away, surrounded by his family, on July 1, 2014.
A world-renowned expert in maritime law, Professor Tetley led an extremely full life.

This spring, BCL/LLB student Peter Grbac received an Arthur C. Helton Fellowship from the American Society of International Law (ASIL) to help support his 2014 summer internship in India.
The Faculty is pleased to announce the appointment of Lionel Smith (first picture) to the Sir William Macdonald Chair. Established in 1895, the Macdonald Chair is one of the oldest endowed positions at 9I制作厂免费. In addition, Professor Smith was also selected for a Killam Research Fellowship in March 2014 in recognition of his outstanding research on fiduciary obligations and conflicts of interest.
A teacher, first and foremost, Roderick A. Macdonald will be remembered as one of the most important scholars and thinkers in 9I制作厂免费鈥檚 history. He was a mentor and inspiration to generations of students and law professors, and a transformative force at the Faculty of Law, the University, in Canadian society, and in the broader world.
Old Chancellor Day Hall, the Faculty of Law鈥檚 most iconic building, is closing at the end of June for 16 months as we undertake much-needed renovations to upgrade the building鈥檚 heating, electrical systems, plumbing, windows and more, while respecting its historical features.
Faculty and staff who were in OCDH have been relocated either to New Chancellor Day Hall and 3674-3690 Peel Street, or to rented office space near 9I制作厂免费鈥檚 Roddick Gates at 2001 9I制作厂免费 College Avenue, suite 750.
Third year Law student Ngozi Okidegbe has been selected to present her paper, "Litigating HIV-related discrimination in Nigeria: implications of Georgina Ahamefule v. Imperial Medical Centre and Dr. Molokwu," 鈥 written under the supervision of Professor Vrinda Narain 鈥 at the 20th International AIDS Conference, which will take place July 20-25, 2014, in Melbourne, Australia.
On June 4, Prime Minister Stephen Harper named Mr. Justice Cl茅ment Gascon (BCL鈥81) to the nation鈥檚 highest court, replacing Mr. Justice Morris Fish (BCL鈥62), who retired last August after a decade on the Supreme Court.
The Faculty of Law offers Justice Gascon its warmest congratulations.

On May 28, Roderick Macdonald was awarded in absentia the 9I制作厂免费 Medal for Exceptional Academic Achievement, one of the University鈥檚 highest honours. Macdonald received the 9I制作厂免费 Medal as part of the Convocation ceremony for the Faculty of Law, where he taught thousands of students over the course of a distinguished career that spanned more than three decades. Professor Daniel Jutras, Dean of the Faculty of Law, accepted the Medal in Professor Macdonald鈥檚 name.
The BCL/LLB graduating class is setting out to change the face of the Faculty, with a crowdfunded class gift aimed at expanding the Faculty鈥檚 photo collection.

We are pleased to announce that the third Dean Maxwell & Isle Cohen Doctoral Seminar in International Law will take place on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at the Faculty of Law of 9I制作厂免费, in downtown Montreal. This year, the seminar will delve into 鈥淚nternational Law: Between Internationalism, Transnationalism and Cosmopolitanism.鈥
Laval University鈥檚 Faculty of Law has awarded a Justitia Prize to Professor Pierre-Gabriel Jobin, Ad.E. He received the Prize during the annual Quebec graduates鈥 cocktail, which was organized by the Dean of that Faculty, Professor Eug茅nie Brouillet, on May 15, 2014.
Thanks to a generous donation from the Li Ka Shing Foundation (Canada) to 9I制作厂免费, ten students from 9I制作厂免费鈥檚 Faculty of Law and ten students in Shantou University鈥檚 Law School (Guangdong Province, China), will be doing a summer law program together from May 19 to 30. The program, which alternates between Montreal and Shantou, will take place in China this year.
Second-year law student Andrea Buitrago Carranza has been selected to participate in the聽2014 Universitas 21 Undergraduate Research Conference (URC), which will be hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, July 7 to 11. This year, the theme is Food Safety: From Farm to Table.
